Root canal treatment in Cologne

Dens Colonia is a specialist practice for endodontics in central Cologne. We treat one thing: the inside of the tooth. Prof. Dr. Baumann treats in English, and written enquiries are answered in English.

What we do, and what we do not

This is not a general dental practice. It exists for one purpose: saving teeth whose nerve is inflamed, dead or already root-treated and still causing trouble. That is the whole of it.

We do not do check-ups, hygiene appointments, fillings, crowns or implants. Your own dentist continues to look after all of that. Once the endodontic work is finished, the tooth goes back to them, chewing-stable and definitively sealed, with a fibre post if one is needed.

If you do not have a dentist in Cologne yet, that is worth arranging in parallel, because someone needs to place the final crown.

Who treats you

Prof. Dr. med. dent. Michael A. Baumann is a co-founder and former president of the German Society for Endodontology. He held the chair for restorative dentistry at the University of Cologne from 1994 to 2014 and wrote two standard German textbooks on the subject. He treats every patient here personally, and he treats in English.

How it works

  1. You send the form. We reply in writing, in English, normally within one working day.
  2. First appointment: examination. X-ray, sensitivity test, a clear answer on whether the tooth can be kept, and a written cost estimate before anything is started.
  3. Treatment, usually two sessions about two weeks apart, 60 to 120 minutes each, under the operating microscope.
  4. Back to your dentist for the final crown, with a written report.
On cost. Dens Colonia is a private practice. Treatment is billed privately and German statutory insurance does not cover it in full. You get the estimate in writing after the examination, before treatment starts. Nobody has to decide on the spot.

Is this a private practice?
Yes. Dens Colonia is a private practice, so treatment is billed privately and is not covered in full by German statutory health insurance. You receive a written cost estimate after the examination and before treatment begins.
How many appointments will I need?
Usually two, about two weeks apart. The first removes the infection and the pressure, the second completes and seals the canal system. Each appointment takes 60 to 120 minutes.
Do you do check-ups, cleanings or implants?
No. This practice treats root canals only. Your general dentist keeps looking after everything else, and the tooth is returned to them once the endodontic work is done.
